Spain to Launch €60 Nationwide Travel Pass in January 2026
The €60 pass offers unlimited travel on commuter and mid-distance trains, metro, and buses nationwide, with potential savings of up to 60% for frequent travelers, benefiting 2 million users.
- On Monday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a nationwide abono único costing 60 for adults and 30 for young people under 26, available in the second half of January 2026.
- In recent years the government implemented crisis-era measures after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, including free or discounted season tickets since March 2022, but exhaustion of crisis-era funds led to promoting a single countrywide pass.
- The fixed-price pass will cover unlimited travel on commuter and mid-distance trains, metro services, and buses across the country's 17 regions, excluding AVE high-speed services and privately-run long-distance bus companies.
- Government sources say the measure will benefit two million public transport users and residents will cut costs, while Sánchez said some workers could save up to almost 60 percent and current transport discounts remain in place during the first half of the year.
- Following the final Cabinet meeting to be held on Tuesday, the government will approve a royal decree-law and expects regional and local public transport networks to gradually join, allowing a gradual adjustment timeline.
