The "forbidden resurrected" of Egger-Lienz turns 100
It is arguably one of the most bitter episodes in the life of the East Tyrolean painter Albin Egger-Lienz, which occurred shortly before his death in 1925: the scandal surrounding the fresco "The Risen Christ" in the Lienz War Memorial Chapel. The depiction of Christ, considered insufficiently divine, was not acceptable to parts of the clergy and the population. The case was brought to Rome. The result was a 57-year ban on services in the chapel.
