The European Parliament in Strasbourg rejected the proposal of the competent committee on legal affairs not to lift the parliamentary immunity of Slovenian MEP Matej Tonin (EPP/NSi) in connection with the Knovs affair. The proposal was supported by 304 MEPs, while 306 voted against. The European Parliament thus did not grant Tonin parliamentary immunity.
MEPs have narrowly rejected a proposal to confirm the immunity of Slovenian MEP Matej Tonin in connection with allegations of abuse of office, which he is accused of by the specialized state prosecutor's office in Slovenia, during the supervision of the work of the Slovenian police while he was a member of the National Assembly.
The European Parliament will vote today in Strasbourg on whether to lift the immunity of Slovenian MEP Matej Tonin (EPP/NSi) in connection with the Knovs affair. The relevant committee on legal affairs has recommended that the parliament not lift his immunity.
