Skyblivion Team Says Former Volunteer Is Threatening to Sue over Code Dispute
The team says it removed the disputed code and rebuilt the system after a former volunteer escalated the conflict with legal threats.
- On Friday, the Skyblivion team announced that a former volunteer is "attempting to sue" the project over code contributions, revealing the dispute in a statement posted to Twitter.
- Following the volunteer's departure, disagreements arose over the "continued use and maintenance" of their code, prompting the team to decompile parts of the work to "maintain functionality and fix issues."
- The volunteer then "escalated to sending legal threats," including demands for the real names and home addresses of team leads, which the team called "something we couldn't accept and think is disproportionate."
- To "protect our volunteers from undue stress and ensure a clean break," the team removed the disputed code and rebuilt it from scratch while seeking legal assistance.
- Despite these challenges, modder Rebelzize said "we will have more to share soon about our planned release," as the project maintains support from Bethesda, which provided free copies of Oblivion Remastered.
