The Creator of 'Star Wars' Loves Art That Tells a Story. Peek at the Collection of George Lucas’ New Museum Before It Opens This Fall
The inaugural Cinema exhibit will showcase props, costumes and vehicle designs from the first six Star Wars films.
On Monday, May 4, 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art announced its inaugural Cinema exhibition titled "Star Wars in Motion," coinciding with the annual "Star Wars Day" celebration.
Opening to the public on September 22, 2026, the institution will feature more than 30 galleries across approximately 100,000 square feet of exhibition space showcasing diverse narrative art.
Featuring props, costumes, and vehicle designs from filmmaker George Lucas's first six films, the exhibition includes the first physical build of General Grievious's Wheel Bike from "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith."
Located in Los Angeles's Exposition Park, the approximately 300,000-square-foot complex features a sweeping, modern design by architect Ma Yansong with about 11 acres of landscaped green space extending onto the building's roof.
Lucas's lifelong love of speed inspired the exhibition, reflecting the passion that fueled his second film, American Graffiti, which captured teenagers racing fast cars.
