Basij Female Unit Commander Assassinated in Latest Attack Targeting Iranian Armed Forces
On Wednesday, Afsaneh Aqila, commander of the Afzal Sisters Basij unit, was assassinated outside her home in Mehrestan, a border county in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
The killing follows a surge in regional violence; the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reported at least 94 people were killed in 63 armed incidents across southeastern Iran since March 31.
Separately, security officer Mohsen Shahriyari was killed confronting a group in the same province, while the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency alleged without evidence that gunmen had links to Israel and the United States.
Province police commander Sardar Mohammadreza Eshaqi condemned the killing, praising Aqila as 'a woman of faith, courage, and sacrifice' to the Basij community.
Although Janfada spokesperson Sasan Zare claimed more than 500,000 women registered for National Resistance battalions in 100 minutes, the Iran Human Rights Monitor reports the regime is recruiting violent prisoners to fill ranks.
