Thai and Cambodian top diplomats meet in China to solidify ceasefire

On Sunday, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow and Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met in Yunnan province, China, for two-day talks mediated by Wang Yi, Chinese top diplomat, who will join Monday sessions.
The Saturday ceasefire followed weeks of deadly clashes along the contested border, seeking to halt weeks of fighting that killed more than 100 people and displaced over half a million after an earlier July ceasefire brokered by Malaysia failed.
China announced 20 million yuan in emergency aid and began delivering food, tents and blankets on Sunday to assist displaced civilians.
Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian Foreign Minister, thanked China for its role in securing the ceasefire, and China said it freezes front lines, allows displaced civilians to return, and offers a platform for communication.
Sihasak Phuangketkeow said Sunday he hoped China would back a sustainable ceasefire and position itself as a mediator alongside the United States and Malaysia.
