Test Flight Shows that Navigation by Cellphone Signals is Possible

Researchers used cell signals to guide an airplane as a substitute for GPS. The test was to see if cellular networks could provide an alternative to GPS and other global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs). The system could track an airplane for dozens of kilometers with accuracy as low as 7 meters.
