Tesla Recalls Over 218,000 Vehicles In US—Model S, 3, X, Y Affected - Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA)
Tesla has released an over-the-air software update after the rearview camera delay was found to affect 218,868 vehicles, NHTSA said.
- On Wednesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Tesla is recalling 218,868 vehicles in the U.S. due to delayed rearview camera images that could increase crash risk.
- Rearview camera images may be delayed "for up to 11 seconds," causing affected vehicles to "fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111," NHTSA stated.
- Tesla has already issued an over-the-air software update to address the issue affecting Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X units running software version 2026.8.6.
- Following the announcement, TSLA shares fell 1.34% during premarket trading on Wednesday, while Tesla previously recalled nearly 200,000 vehicles in 2024 for a different rearview camera bug.
- Amid these domestic safety concerns, Tesla recorded mixed European sales in April, with 112% growth in France and 111% in Sweden, though Norway sales fell 61% due to reduced EV incentives.
