Tesco changes Clubcard rules 'from today' with new prices for 1.3m

  • Tesco has launched a digital Clubcard membership for 16 and 17-year-olds, allowing younger shoppers to access loyalty discounts and earn vouchers for the first time.
  • The move follows criticism from consumer groups regarding age restrictions that previously excluded younger customers from loyalty pricing; Tesco aims to serve teenagers as regular shoppers.
  • Tesco Group Membership and Loyalty Director Shama Wilson said the scheme will allow members to purchase the lunchtime meal deal for £3.85 and collect points for money-off vouchers.
  • Teenagers must receive an invitation from a parent or guardian's existing Clubcard account to join. Parents send sign-up links via the latest version of the Tesco app.
  • Launched more than 30 years ago, the Clubcard now serves more than 24 million UK households and is used in over 80% of transactions at Tesco.
