Man with Broom Confronts Machete-Wielding Robbers at North London Jewellers
Public intervention disrupted the robbery at a North London jewellery shop, with a man wielding only a broom confronting armed suspects, police said no arrests yet.
On Tuesday, February 24, CCTV captured an armed robbery at Bilezzik, a jewellery shop on Green Lanes in Islington, North London, where masked robbers carrying large machetes smashed display cabinets.
CCTV shows one gang member drove a moped directly into the shop while a second thief carrying a hammer entered behind, shattering display cases as the raid unfolded.
Footage shows the machete-wielder slashing at bottles and shouting at bystanders, while a helmeted suspect paced outside swinging a large machete as onlookers gathered near the storefront.
The Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers arrived at 10:08 a.m. after a 10:04 a.m. call on Tuesday, February 24, with an investigation ongoing and no arrests made at this stage.
A member of the public armed only with a broom repeatedly confronted the machete-wielding suspect, at times retreating then persisting, with coverage describing him as a "have-a-go hero.
