OSLO (AP): Norway bade its final farewell to Harald V yesterday as crowds lined the streets and foreign royals and leaders converged on Oslo for the funeral of the long-serving king, who was remembered as a popular monarch with a down-to-earth touch.

Tens of thousands of people lined the streets of Oslo on Wednesday for the funeral of King Harald V, bringing 13 days of national mourning to an end and marking the start of the reign of his son, King Haakon VIII. Harald died on 28 August aged 89 after 35 years on the throne. More than 46,000 people had filed past his coffin during the days before the funeral.
All of Europe gathered in Oslo to pay the last respects to King Harald V – but his close friend and cousin, King Charles, was missing. The short-term rejection nourishes his concern for his health.
