DOJ: TN Arsonist Sentenced to over 17 Years for Bombing Offices of Historic Civil Rights Center
Regan Darby Prater admitted the attack was driven by white supremacist beliefs and was ordered to pay $1.289 million in restitution.
- On Wednesday, Regan Darby Prater, 28, of Tullahoma, was sentenced to 17.5 years in federal prison for arson at the Highlander Center and attempting to provide material support to Hezbollah.
- Prater admitted to destroying the New Market, Tennessee, education center with a napalm-based "sparkler bomb" in 2019, motivated by his white-supremacist ideology and opposition to the facility's ties to the Civil Rights Movement.
- Prosecutors said Prater obtained personal information for more than 35,000 people affiliated with the Israeli government and provided the document to a suspected Hezbollah associate, writing "Start the hunt."
- The court mandated three years of supervised release and ordered Prater to pay nearly $1.3 million in restitution for damages to the nonprofit facility.
- Before the arson, Prater spray-painted the Iron Guard symbol, a Romanian Nazi paramilitary group's emblem, in the parking lot; the same symbol appeared on the rifle used in the Christchurch, New Zealand, terrorist attacks.
