Four of Europe's largest operators want to take the next step in satellite connectivity in this way
Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Vodafone, and Telefónica may collaborate to offer satellite connections for smartphones. The European telecom companies reportedly want to jointly bid for frequencies that will become available next year.
According to an article in Bloomberg, a group of European operators, including Orange, would intend to compete with Starlink on the mobile satellite internet, and they would intend to make an offer to get a portion of the spectrum dedicated to this use that the EU could reserve for its local operators. This Brussels project was proposed in May, but has not yet been adopted.
A new alliance is emerging to build digital sovereignty in the face of the American ogre Starlink, and the stakes go far beyond mere connectivity.
