Teenager’s success story as he becomes Centrepoint's student of the year
Samsom rebuilt his life with Centrepoint support, improving his sight, gaining independence and earning two awards for academic progress.
Samsom, an 18-year-old refugee supported by youth homelessness charity Centrepoint, earned College Student of the Year and received an Educational Excellence Award for his academic progress.
Fleeing Eritrea at just 16, Samsom arrived in Britain in 2023 as an unaccompanied asylum seeker after traveling through Ethiopia, Libya, Italy, and France before crossing the Channel by boat.
Following his arrival, Centrepoint provided supported accommodation and medical care, with Samsom saying, "Centrepoint helped me manage my health and supported me in undergoing an operation to restore my vision."
Now studying English and maths, Samsom has developed greater independence in daily tasks including cooking and shopping, enabling him to focus fully on his education.
Centrepoint continues providing similar support to vulnerable young people across the country, aiming to help thousands rebuild lives and reach their full potential despite homelessness.
