15-Year-Old Boy Dies at Hospital After Bronx Shooting, NYPD Says
Police say the 15-year-old was the intended target as investigators search for three masked suspects who fled, possibly into nearby Crotona Park.
A 15-year-old boy died after being shot in the abdomen Thursday morning near East 171st Street and Third Avenue in the Bronx, police said. Officers discovered the victim shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Authorities are searching for three teenage boys, ages 16 to 18, wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks. Sources indicated the suspects fled south on Fulton Avenue toward Crotona Park after the shooting.
Longtime resident Carla noted the victim was simply walking to class when attacked. "He was just going to school, like doing what he was supposed to do," Carla said.
Officers transported the teenager to Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made, and the NYPD has not yet identified the boy.
NYPD data shows 17 shootings so far this year in the precinct, compared with 27 during the same period last year, marking a decline in local violence. The killing occurs despite this downward trend.
