Teen dead after electric scooter, pickup truck collide in Orlando, FHP says
Florida Highway Patrol said the 13-year-old rider died days after the crash, which remains under traffic homicide investigation.
A 13-year-old boy, identified by the Florida Highway Patrol as Colton Remsburg, died Wednesday night after a collision with a pickup truck on Sunday near Moss Park Road and Savannah Pines Drive in Orlando.
Remsburg was reportedly heading to buy flowers for his mother for Mother's Day when struck by the pickup truck; the 35-year-old driver remained at the scene and will likely not face charges, troopers said.
The impact split the scooter into two pieces, and family friend Tyler Embry noted Remsburg was not wearing a helmet, saying, "It's just that he hit his head so hard on the ground."
Lake Nona Youth Sports President Jason Kleiner expressed community sadness, while Orange County School Board member Maria Salamanca requested a town hall meeting with Orlando Commissioner Tom Keen to address e-scooter safety.
A moment of silence for Remsburg is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Heroes Community Park, as the Florida Highway Patrol has assigned the case to traffic homicide investigators as a delayed fatality.
