Target Recalls over 200,000 Children's Sandals After Pearls Detach, Creating Choking Risk

- On Thursday, the Minneapolis-based retailer Target announced a voluntary recall of approximately 211,000 Cat & Jack toddler girls' Sequerah Sandals after the Consumer Product Safety Commission determined decorative pearls can detach, creating a choking hazard.
- Target received 23 reports of pearl detachment from the raffia-strap footwear, which were manufactured in Cambodia; while no injuries have been reported, the company is urging parents to immediately remove the sandals from children's reach.
- Sold at Target stores and online from January through May 2026 for about $22, the sandals feature raffia straps, gold buckles, and plastic pearls, with the Cat & Jack label stamped on the underside.
- "Consumers will be asked to return the sandals to any store or use a prepaid label to return the sandals by mail," the CPSC statement said, as Target provides full refunds for the affected footwear.
- Launched in 2016, the Cat & Jack brand is sold at over 2,000 Target stores nationwide, and this safety action follows the retailer's 2020 recalls for children's swimsuits and rompers over similar choking hazards.
