Target baby wipe recall elevated to FDA's most severe level
FDA said the contaminated Up & Up wipes could cause serious health consequences or death and told customers to stop using them and seek refunds.
On Monday, the Food and Drug Administration designated the Target 'Up & Up' baby wipe recall as a Class I event, the agency's most severe classification level.
Testing revealed the presence of Burkholderia cepacia and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria in product samples, prompting the initial recall of Target's fragrance-free and cucumber-scented wipes.
Target received consumer complaints that the wipes were discolored, affecting fragrance-free batches manufactured from November 7, 2025, to May 5, 2026, and cucumber-scented products from late December 2025.
While these bacteria typically cause only local infections in healthy adults, they pose significant risks to children and immunocompromised individuals, potentially spreading to the bloodstream, according to the FDA.
Customers should immediately stop using the recalled Up & Up wipes and return them to Target for a full refund, the FDA advises.
