Tampa rapper convicted of murder requests death sentence in letter to judge
Adams said he wants the jury’s death recommendation to stand and asked to waive mitigation before his Dec. 1 sentencing hearing.
Tampa rapper Billy Adams, known as 'Ace NH,' wrote a handwritten letter to Judge Mark Wolfe requesting the death penalty ahead of his December 1 sentencing hearing.
A jury convicted Adams last month of murdering his 22-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Alana Sims, and her unborn child in 2023. Sims was five months pregnant when killed.
In an 8-to-4 vote, jurors recommended the death penalty for the unborn child's murder. Adams wrote that he wants to waive mitigating factors, stating: "I don't have an issue with the death penalty."
Judge Wolfe will make the final sentencing decision at the Spencer hearing scheduled for December 1, though the court must still consider mitigating factors presented during trial.
Criminal defense attorney Anthony Rickman, unaffiliated with the case, says requesting death is uncommon. Rickman suggests defendants may prefer execution's finality to life imprisonment.
