Miami Marlins to Trade Liam Hicks for Three Tampa Bay Rays Prospects
Liam Hicks brings a .282 average and 14 home runs in 101 games as Tampa Bay fills a need behind the plate.
On Monday, the American League-leading Tampa Bay Rays acquired catcher Liam Hicks from the Miami Marlins in a major trade hours before the 6 p.m. ET trade deadline.
Tampa Bay targeted Hicks to upgrade their catching tandem of Nick Fortes and Hunter Feduccia, who combined for only six home runs while struggling to drive in runs.
Hicks, 27, has enjoyed a breakout season, batting.282 with 14 home runs and a team-leading 62 RBIs across 101 games while providing flexibility to play both catcher and first base.
In return for Hicks, Miami received three prospects: infielder Brayden Taylor, shortstop Adrian Santana, and right-handed pitcher Jacob Kisting, bolstering their farm system.
The Rays hold a 2.5-game lead in the American League East, while the Marlins remain 1.5 games back in the National League wild card race after the trade.
