Airbag deaths in France: Citroen tells C3 and DS3 owners to stop driving cars
French carmaker Citroen has told owners of its C3 and DS3 models in Europe equipped with potentially faulty Takata airbags not to drive the vehicles, after a woman was killed in France this month.
Citroën has announced the immediate immobilization of all relevant C3 and DS3 in Europe. This decision follows the requirement of the Minister of Transport to stop all risk models
The car manufacturer Citroën requested on Tuesday 17 June the immediate immobilization of all models of C3 and DS3 cars still equipped with Takata airbags in Europe, regardless of their year of production, after a new death in France linked to these defective equipment.
The death of the driver of a Citroën C3 due to the explosion of her airbag raises questions about the organisation and definition of recalls. The vehicle was not one of those forced to stop absolutely by a "stop drive" measure.
After Philippe Tabarot who had requested a stop drive measure for all the C3 and DS3 on Tuesday 17 June, when a failed model claimed a second victim in the metropolis, it was the turn of Citroën's director to ask for a recall of 441,000 vehicles.
