Swiss 'Mountain Tinder' Sparks High-Altitude Attraction
SWITZERLAND, AUG 5 – Mountain Tinder notebooks on seven Swiss peaks encourage hikers to connect offline, with several couples formed and the idea spreading to Argentina, founder Thibaud Monney said.
- In 2023, a young hiking enthusiast from Switzerland launched 'Mountain Tinder' by leaving notebooks on seven peaks in the Fribourg region for visitors to exchange messages.
- Monney started this idea jokingly because he disliked conventional dating apps where users choose partners by pictures and swiping.
- Mountain Tinder's system filters participants naturally by their ability to reach the peaks and their shared love of nature, which Monney considers a strong personal filter.
- During a recent hike to the La Vudalla peak , Monney said, "It has worked well," noting several couples formed and expressing pride in making people happy.
- The notebooks' success led to spread beyond Fribourg to other Swiss cantons and Argentina, as people seek an analogue, nature-based alternative to online dating.
