SWEET SPRINGS, Mo. — A small white clapboard building on the 300 block of North Miller Street holds a story much of Sweet Springs has yet to fully hear. The St. Paul Methodist Episcopal Church — founded in 1872 by Mary Spriggs, a formerly enslaved woman — still stands, but barely. Now, a determined group of preservationists is racing to save it.
