Ed Sheeran Loses 200,000 Instagram Followers in 24 Hours as Row Deepens
Macklemore’s removal from the tour prompted all remaining support acts to quit, while Sheeran’s Instagram following fell to 47.4 million, sources said.
On Tuesday, Ed Sheeran lost around 200,000 Instagram followers after removing rapper Macklemore from his Loop Tour following backlash over the rapper's "Free Palestine" speech.
Macklemore's September 4 and 5 performances at MetLife Stadium featured his 2024 protest track "Hind's Hall," triggering an Israeli American Council boycott petition calling for his removal.
Alleging billionaire Robert Kraft orchestrated his removal by "rallying stadium owners and issuing an ultimatum," Macklemore noted Kraft cited a "broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery" for barring the rapper from Gillette Stadium.
Following Macklemore's departure, all remaining support acts—including Myles Smith and Irish band Beoga—withdrew from the tour, as Messina Touring Group noted venues refused to host shows with the rapper on the lineup.
With no opening acts currently scheduled, the Loop Tour faces persistent uncertainty, as 18 dates remain on the schedule before the end of the year without a clear replacement lineup.
