Sweden midfielder Lucas Bergvall signs new deal with Tottenham after speculation he might leave
On Friday, 20-year-old midfielder Lucas Bergvall signed a new contract with Tottenham, extending his tenure until 2032 and ending speculation about his future at the club.
Several clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, targeted the Swede this summer after he expressed unhappiness regarding limited playing time under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Admitting past mistakes in his management, De Zerbi praised Bergvall's attitude, stating, "Every day in training you can see Lucas' desire to learn, improve and push himself to the highest level."
Aiming to build on 80 appearances for the club, Bergvall said, "I think we're building something great here," and expressed his goal to produce more goals and assists.
Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange confirmed the club's strategic belief in the player, adding, "This new contract is a reflection of our belief in Lucas and the role we see him playing both now and in the future of the club.
