Suspected impaired driver found unconscious near Langford elementary school
West Shore RCMP say a 39-year-old woman was prohibited from driving for 24 hours after officers found signs of suspected drug impairment.
- On Thursday, June 4, West Shore RCMP officers responded to reports of a grey van driving erratically on Happy Valley Road in Langford, stopping near the 3400 block.
- Officers found the driver, a 39-year-old woman, unconscious inside the van; she showed signs of suspected drug impairment after regaining consciousness, resulting in a 24-hour driving prohibition and vehicle impoundment.
- Cpl. Nathan Brown, who oversees the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit, noted the incident's proximity to an elementary school posed serious risks to children leaving school at that time.
- The investigation remains ongoing pending results of a drug influence evaluation conducted by a drug recognition expert, while police thanked the witness for contacting them immediately.
- Since the start of 2026, the RCMP has removed more than 70 impaired drivers from local roads, including 11 drivers allegedly impaired by drugs.
