Vehicle sought in US consulate shooting investigation found, Toronto police say
Two suspects fired at the U.S. consulate using a stolen SUV, recovered within hours, with no injuries reported, police said.
- On March 10, police say two male suspects exited a vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the United States consulate in downtown Toronto, around 4:29 a.m., before fleeing.
- Police say the SUV was stolen shortly before the shooting, and Toronto police recovered a white Honda CR-V within hours near Queen Street W. and University Avenue.
- Officials say no injuries were reported and people inside likely did not hear the gunfire because the consulate building is heavily fortified, with a damaged door and roughly 10 shell casings found outside.
- RCMP and Toronto police are treating the case as a national security incident, while Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the gunfire as an act of intimidation.
- Investigators are searching for at least two suspects and two suspects remain outstanding, officials have not said whether the shooting is connected to recent targeted shootings at three GTA synagogues, and security at U.S. and Israeli consulates has been increased.
