Survey: AI has reached the consumer inflection point
The survey found consumers want human oversight, data privacy and transparency as AI use expands in banking and everyday tasks.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, research revealed that 78% of Americans now report using AI-powered tools in their daily lives, confirming the technology has shifted from early experimentation into mainstream consumer adoption.
Workplace integration has driven this surge, with 83% of employed respondents incorporating AI-powered tools into their professional tasks as employees report competitive advantages in productivity and decision-making.
Usage varies significantly across different Generations, with Gen Z at 90% and baby boomers at 63%; despite widespread adoption, trust remains lower than confidence in financial institutions, as consumers prioritize human oversight.
When contacting banks, 81% of consumers prefer human involvement, and only 18% express comfort allowing AI to make important financial decisions independently, signaling demand for human-led, AI-enhanced interactions.
The share of respondents who trust AI "a great deal" nearly doubled to 15% between 2025 and 2026; building long-term confidence will require transparency as consumers become more selective about where AI adds value.
