A new survey shows that the Union is catching up with the AfD, but there is still bad news for Chancellor Merz.
In the new "ZDF Politbarometer", the AfD loses two percentage points and reaches 26 percent. The Union gains two points and reaches 23 percent.
In previous surveys of other institutions, the gap between the AfD and the Union was greater. According to the survey, the current black and red government coalition would still not have a majority.
After the survey depth of the past months, the research group Elections CDU and CSU sees a slight upswing again. In contrast, the AfD loses as well as the Green and Left. The SPD shows itself to be better.
In the new ZDF Sunday question, the AfD's lead on the Union is shrinking significantly. At the same time, 71 percent of Germans see the riots in France as a problem for the EU. Among the supporters of the left, however, there is little understanding of the problem situation.
