Surat horror: Seven killed after Maharashtra ST bus hits tractor, crosses divider and collides with another bus
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, seven people died and around 40 were injured after two Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses collided near Bardoli in Surat district, Gujarat, with one bus catching fire.
Surat Rural Superintendent of Police Rajesh Ghadhiya said the bus hit a tanker on National Highway 56, jumped the divider, and collided head-on with an oncoming bus along the Bardoli-Vyara stretch.
Teams from Surat and the neighboring Tapi district launched immediate rescue operations, shifting injured passengers to local hospitals in Bardoli, Inspector General Prem Vir Singh confirmed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced ex-gratia payments from the PMNRF for the families of the deceased, officials stated.
Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the fatal collision as authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations on the Bardoli-Vyara stretch.
