Two weeks ago, more than a hundred miners began a march to the Turkish capital Ankara to claim back pay. Since their arrival, they have started a hunger strike, and there were confrontations with riot police on Monday. The miners can count on sympathy among the population.
The goalless draw between Beşiktaş and Fatih Karagümrük was marked by the fans' chants about miners. The part of the chant that said "Sit in Parliament" also drew attention.
During the Beşiktaş-Karagümrük match, the black and white stands did not forget the Doruk Mining workers who are on a hunger strike for their rights. The fans made the stadium roar with chants of, "You sit in Parliament and get free steaks, while the miners face starvation."
