Event Horizon Telescope allows close study of accelerating jets from black holes
An international team of researchers used multi-wavelength observations of active galactic nuclei to study how black holes launch relativistic jets. The sixteen sources were observed with the Event Horizon Telescope during its first campaign in 2017. The extreme resolution achieved by the Event Horizon Telescope enabled studies of jets closer than ever to the central supermassive black holes of these galaxies.
Studying Accelerating Jets from Black Holes
Published in Astronomy & Astrophysics, scientists from the MPIfR and the IAA-CSIC researched the complex dynamics and substructure of jets from black holes. Their research challenges current theoretical models of how they form and move. Phys.org shares the details. An international team of researchers used multi-wavelength observations of active galactic nuclei to study how black holes launch relativistic jets. The sixteen sources were observed …
Black Hole Jets Reveal New Insights into the Most Powerful Phenomena in the Universe
An international team of astronomers has made significant strides in understanding the mysterious jets emanating from supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxies. A new study, which observed 16 active galactic nuclei, focused on the jets of these incredibly luminous objects powered by supermassive black holes. Researchers were able to probe the innermost regions […] Source
