Man United Co-Owner Ineos' Swiss Club Lausanne Fires Coach
The club said results were the deciding factor after Lausanne won just 1 of 12 league matches.
- On Tuesday, Lausanne-Sport fired coach Luka Elsner after five months in the job, citing poor results. The Swiss club, owned by British chemicals giant Ineos, sits last in the 12-team league.
- The decision followed Sunday's collapse against Thun, where the team led 4-1 entering the 70th minute but eventually lost 5-4. This defeat exposed deeper problems in Elsner's debut season.
- Results are "the determining factor," Lausanne said in a statement, adding the best decision was to end its partnership with the Slovenian coach. Elsner managed only one win in 12 league games.
- Ineos, led by Jim Ratcliffe, also owns the French club Nice and holds a minority stake in Manchester United. Ratcliffe currently controls soccer operations at United, where coach Michael Carrick faces similar pressure.
- Attention now shifts to United, currently in 17th place in the Premier League, where coach Michael Carrick is widely expected to be fired this month. The Ratcliffe-led portfolio faces mounting scrutiny.
