Sumrall Man Killed in Highway 42 Crash in Jefferson Davis County
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and the pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene while a passenger was hospitalized.
On Thursday, July 30, a two-vehicle crash on Mississippi Highway 42 in Jefferson Davis County killed Hollis Douglas, 50, of Sumrall, involving a 2005 Toyota Camry and a 2018 Ford F-250.
Investigators reported that Dantirrean D. Smith, 42, of Brookhaven, was traveling west in a 2005 Toyota Camry when he collided with the eastbound 2018 Ford F-250.
The Jefferson Davis County Coroner's Office pronounced the Ford driver dead at the scene, while passenger Robert W. Breland Jr., 54, of Sumrall, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Following the collision, Smith left the scene but later voluntarily turned himself in to the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff's Office, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Troopers confirmed the incident occurred around 7:47 p.m. on July 30, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
