This summer, for the first time ever, the Canadian Nuclear Heritage Museum in Deep River is holding regular open hours for drop-in tours. This is thanks to the two summer students they hired: Lydia Dillenbeck and Janelle Pyoli.
For decades, it was one of NATO's best-kept secrets. Hidden in a rocky mountainside near Verona, the West Star bunker was designed to withstand even a nuclear attack and provide shelter for hundreds of people. Now, the monumental underground complex will be given a second life. The first section of the facility could open to the public as early as next summer.
