Deeper China-Oman Ties Strategic for Both Sides, Xi Says
On Sunday, Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said arrived in Beijing for a state visit, marking the first by an Omani head of state since the countries established diplomatic ties in 1978.
Chinese President Xi Jinping described the China-Oman relationship as a 'shared strategic choice,' telling Haitham that bilateral ties are at a 'new historical starting point.'
People's Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng welcomed Haitham at Beijing's tarmac, as Oman seeks expanded cooperation in renewable energy, digital commerce, and trade with its largest trading partner.
Xi emphasized the Middle East Gulf region must not become an arena for great-power rivalry, expressing willingness to coordinate with Arab countries and the Gulf Cooperation Council to contribute 'wisdom and solutions to resolving the region's security dilemmas.'
Haitham expressed openness to a preferential bilateral trade and investment agreement with China, stating such an accord would 'open new avenues for trade and investment' between the two nations.
The Middle East and the Gulf region should not become a battlefield for rivalry between great powers, and China is willing to work with the Arab nations to achieve lasting peace, Chinese President Xi Jinping said to the Sultan of Oman on Monday (2).
The Sultan of Oman, Haitham Ben Tarek, and Chinese President Shi Jin Ping, both discussed the promotion of cooperation in energy, technology and investment during the first visit of the Sultan of Oman to China since the establishment of diplomatic relations 48 years ago.
