26 Women, 4 Children Killed in Sudan RSF Drone Strike: Official, Witnesses
The attack hit near a displacement camp and gold-mining site, as the war’s drone strikes have killed more than 1,100 people this year, UN figures show.
On Friday, a drone strike by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces killed 30 people, including 26 women and four children, near a displacement camp in Abu Shendi, Blue Nile.
Wad Al-Mahi governor Mahgoub Al-Sheikh claimed the drone was launched from inside Ethiopia, where it struck near an informal gold mining site where women extract gold using bare hands.
Nearly 100,000 people have been displaced across Blue Nile state this year, according to UN figures, while the UN describes the conflict as a 'war of atrocities' that has killed more than 200,000 people since April 2023.
The war has evolved into a sophisticated drone conflict enabling far-reaching attacks. External powers fuel the fighting; the UAE denies backing the RSF, while Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye support the army.
