- The Sturgeon Moon will rise on both Saturday and Sunday , reaching peak illumination at 8.54am BST on Saturday.
- The August full moon earned its Sturgeon Moon name due to seasonal fishing when sturgeon fish are most easily caught and also carries the Black Cherry Moon title as fruit ripens now.
- Around 9pm on August 9, the full moon will rise in the southeast, and viewing from dark locations away from city lights is recommended.
- Lighting up the night from this Friday, the Moon will reach maximum splendour and form a close conjunction with Saturn on August 13, while the Perseids meteor shower peaks at up to 100 meteors an hour.
- Future full moons include the Corn Moon on September 7, with the next planetary alignment occurring on August 18, featuring Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, the Moon, Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune.
