A new study led by researchers from the University of Tartu shows that the history of plague in Europe was much more complex than the great wave of the Black Death between 1347 and 1353 often described in school textbooks. The plague bacterium Yersinia pestis did not disappear from Europe after that, but the disease broke out again and again in different regions for almost 400 years, until the 18th century.
