People who do not drink enough water have a stronger biological response to stress, according to a study.

Dr. Günay Budagova stated that dehydration disrupts the functioning of all organs, including the brain, adding, "Even mild dehydration (lack of water) increases cortisol (stress hormone) levels and reduces the production of the happiness hormone. This leads to feelings of anxiety, irritability, and restlessness."
