Study: Brain Training Reverses 10 Years of Cognitive Aging in World First
A 10-week BrainHQ training restored cholinergic function to levels typical of someone 10 years younger in 92 adults aged 65+, a first in demonstrating neurochemical aging reversal.
McGill University-led clinical trial showed the BrainHQ app enhanced cholinergic function and improved learning and memory networks in humans after 10 weeks of use.
Researchers note the cholinergic system declines with age and collapses in Alzheimer's disease, reducing acetylcholine that supports attention, memory and decision-making, prompting non-pharmacological options.
92 adults aged 65 and older trained 30 minutes daily on tablets for 10 weeks, and PET scans using a rare tracer at The Neuro showed only BrainHQ produced a 2.3 percent binding increase.
Senior author Dr Etienne de Villers-Sidani said the training restored cholinergic health to levels typically seen in someone 10 years younger, and researchers say BrainHQ offers a lower-risk alternative to medication.
This world-first study shows computerized training can upregulate acetylcholine in humans, and BrainHQ features in more than 300 published studies.
