Some students plan to stage walkout to protest Quebec’s new cellphone ban in schools
Quebec students are organizing a walkout on May 9 to oppose the upcoming policy that will prohibit the use of cellphones throughout the entire school day starting next academic year.
Education Minister Bernard Drainville announced the ban on April 30 to improve civility and reduce distractions in schools.

Students argue phones assist socializing and safety, with one calling the ban 'ridiculous' and another describing it as 'useless.'
The protest signals broad student dissatisfaction and raises questions about the policy's impact on school climate and student expression.
Since the beginning of May mobile phones have been banned by law from many classrooms. Children's and youth psychiatrist Martin Fuchs explains why renunciation is important.
