STU ELLIS: River friends not doing their part to keep Mississippi River flowing

Summary by Ground News
Barges, which are the prime mode of grain transportation to get Corn Belt grain to the global export market, had a rough ride over shoals, sand bars, and mud flats in the Mississippi in the fall of 2022. Water levels now are at the same level as they were at the end of last fall when barge operations diminished. The global grain buyers don't want to pay that added cost, because low water on the Mississippi is not their problem.
