'Stranger Things' prequel 'Other Worlds' coming to Netflix in 2028
The prequel features an all-new cast and story as Netflix expands the Stranger Things universe with new heroes, villains and mythology.
On Friday, Netflix announced a live-action prequel titled 'Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure' set in 1955 Marion, Nevada, coinciding with Stranger Things Day, marking the date Will Byers disappeared in the original series.
Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer developed the concept since 2022, serving as co-creators alongside longtime writer Kate Trefry while maintaining their overall deal at Paramount.
Golden Globe-winning director Joe Wright will direct the first three episodes, while Trefry serves as showrunner and executive producer, having written the stage play 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow.'
Slated for a 2028 debut, the series features 'all-new characters, themes and mythology,' with producers describing the upcoming project as 'thrillingly fresh' and exploring a new setting.
This marks the fourth project in the 'Stranger Things' franchise, joining the original series, the animated 'Stranger Things: Tales From '85,' and the stage production, with filming in New Mexico.
"Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure" will transport viewers to the 1950s, with an all-new story, new characters and mysteries that connect to the original series.
