'Stop using them immediately': Tesco, B&M, Boots & more issue recalls

Multiple UK retailers recall nearly 600 baby soother clips, mugs, toys, and appliances due to choking, chemical, fire, and breakage hazards, says the Office for Product Safety and Standards.

  • On October 27, retail chains including Boots and TK Maxx issued recalls due to safety concerns over mugs and products containing unsafe metals, according to OPSS.
  • Regulators identified chemical and mechanical hazards in consumer items, with coatings on mugs releasing heavy metals, jewellery containing cadmium, and battery packs posing thermal runaway risk.
  • Among the recalls are product codes 31340401 and 31340402 for Maxi-Cosi toy trays, and product codes 013167 and 596096 for TK Maxx mugs, with Tesco issue 419 recalled for batch 596096.
  • Shoppers are being urged to stop using affected products and seek refunds or replacements; consumers must return items immediately, Hisense tumble dryers owners unplug, and Tefal X‑Force Flex 15.60 and 14.60 TY99 users request battery replacements.
  • Regulators have ordered removals and pointed to legal safety standards, with Trading standards and OPSS enforcing corrective actions, including removal of noncompliant listings from Amazon, citing Toys Regulations 2011 and Electrical Equipment Regulations 2016 for affected units manufactured before December 2024.
