Stephen Lewis, former politician, social activist, dies at 88
Stephen Lewis, noted for his UN work and HIV/AIDS activism, died after battling cancer; his foundation raised over $200 million for African NGOs, his son leads federal NDP.
Stephen Lewis, the former leader of the Ontario NDP, passed away in Toronto on Tuesday at age 88.
Lewis spent decades fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the United Nations and through his own foundation.
As of last year, Lewis' Stephen Lewis Foundation had raised more than $200 million for grassroots organizations fighting AIDS on the ground in Africa.
