Recall Alert: 1.07M Jeeps Recalled, Owners Told to Park Outside Due to Fire Risk
On Tuesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of 1,076,999 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles from model years 2021 to 2025 due to a potential fire risk.
Investigators linked 51 fires and one injury to a faulty electrical connection in the power steering pump wiring, which allows "combustible materials to overheat and potentially catch fire" even when vehicles are parked.
FCA, the company behind Stellantis North America, confirmed the recall to ABC News on Wednesday, noting more than 254,000 additional vehicles will be recalled in Canada, Mexico, and other markets.
The NHTSA advised owners to park affected Jeeps "outside and away from buildings" until repairs are completed, while FCA US will "repair or replace the wiring harness and/or electric hydraulic power steering pump."
Vehicle identification numbers become searchable on the NHTSA website starting Thursday, June 11, with official notification letters expected to be mailed to owners on July 9.
