The municipal authorities in Istanbul, Turkey, today banned Workers' Day demonstrations on May 1st in four districts and will keep Taksim Square, a symbol of left-wing movements in the country, closed.
The Istanbul Governorship announced that permission has been granted for events to be held at Kadıköy Rıhtım Square and Kartal Square as part of the May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day. However, it was reported that all demonstrations and events are banned throughout the day in the districts of Beyoğlu, Şişli, Fatih, and Beşiktaş.
Istanbul Governorate announced that all outdoor activities such as rallies, marches, press releases, sit-ins, tent setting are banned from 00.01 to 23.59 on Friday May 1 in Beyoğlu, Şişli, Fatih and Besiktas due to Labor and Solidarity Day on May 1.
