Ahead of Saxony-Anhalt's state election on Sunday, a democracy festival by civil society groups is planned in Magdeburg. The far-right AfD will also hold its final campaign rally in the state capital. DW has the latest.

Several thousand people are expected to participate in demonstrations and rallies at the election weekend in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the police, a dozen events are scheduled in the state capital Magdeburg and several rallies for democracy in Halle (Saale). The largest takes place from Saturday afternoon on Magdeburg Cathedral Square. Here, an alliance of trade unions and civil society awaits around 8,000 participants.
The organizers want to demonstrate their commitment to a "diverse civil society" before Election Sunday.
